Right now, it’s 12° in Minneapolis, and as I write, I wish more than anything to transport myself back to Secrets Bahia Mita Surf and Spa resort just outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Andrew and I have visited three times over the past two years, and we keep coming back for the luxurious and secluded atmosphere of this five-star, adults-only resort.

Suite Accommodations & Your Personal Concierge
When you arrive at Secrets Bahia Mita, you pass through a gate covered in vines of lush pink flowers into a secluded world of luxury where everything is taken care of for you. As soon as you step out of your car, your luggage is whisked away to your suite by an attendant while your personal concierge gives you a welcome drink of your choosing and an introduction to the resort. Your concierge will then guide you to your exquisite suite for the duration of your stay. Your concierge will attend to your needs throughout your entire stay. You can text them anytime to make restaurant reservations, book spa treatments, and schedule activities at the resort.
On our most recent visit in July of 2024, we got engaged at the resort, and our concierge met us back at our room after our proposal with a bottle of chilled champagne and a plate of pastries to celebrate. After this first night, he surprised us by leaving a chilled bottle of champagne by our balcony plunge pool each night for the remainder of our stay! This is to say that your concierge will bend over backward to ensure your stay is as special and memorable as possible, especially if you’re celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or other major life events!
At this resort, there are four suite variations to choose from. Andrew and I have personally stayed in the Junior Suite and the Preferred Club Junior Suite, which includes access to an exclusive rooftop infinity pool and lounge area with a private bar and the best sunbathing spot on the property! Secrets Bahia Mita also offers the Preferred Club Suite and Presidential Suite, which offer more space for adult families or multiple couples to stay in the same room.
Each suite, no matter the level, will include beautiful contemporary Mexican decor, marble floors, and a lush jungle or pristine ocean view. Suites are all furnished with a balcony or terrace, along with a full bathroom with a separate rainfall shower and 24-hour room service that you can order via a tablet within each room. The Preferred Club Suites include a plunge pool on your terrace with breathtaking views of the lush resort, white-sand beach, and the expansive Pacific Ocean right from your room!
Endless Water: Stunning Pools and Seamless Beach Access
Secrets Bahia Mita boasts seven different pools spread across their property. From their party-focused pool with a massive swim-up bar and huge hot tub to their secluded infinity pools positioned with a perfect view of the Pacific, there is a pool to appeal to every visitor. We spent most of our pool time in the roof-top infinity pool with an unbelievable view of the surrounding jungle, the Pacific Ocean, and the beautiful Zona Romantica of Puerto Vallarta in the distance.
At all of their pools, servers are positioned to bring you food and drink, so all you need to worry about is reapplying your sunscreen! They also have ample space to lounge in the sun with a good book or plush cabanas to nap in the shade while listening to the calming Pacific waves brushing the sandy shores.
Aside from spending time in the pool, Secrets Bahia Mita has its own private section of the beach with volleyball nets, fire pits, and all the beach equipment you could ever want. They also offer surfing lessons a few times daily for the unfamiliar and provide all the equipment for the more experienced travelers looking to catch some waves.
Relax and Unwind: Indulge in the Exquisite Spa and Entertainment
The spa at Secrets Bahia Mita is the most relaxing and indulgent place I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Imagine tranquility, serenity, and relaxation in a tangible form—over 33,000 sq. ft. of bliss! The Secrets Spa is a haven for rejuvenation with every treatment, massage, and relaxing service you can imagine.
The spa offers a swirling hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, steam room, swiss shower, two hydrotherapy tubs, one recreational pool, and thermal suite in addition to a full-service salon with revitalizing skin and hair treatments, manicures, and pedicures. The spa also uses strictly all-natural products from the world-renowned Pevonia, known far and wide as the global leader in spa products.
Outside the spa, Secrets Bahia Mita offers an incredible variety of entertainment, themed parties, and special dinners to enrich your stay. From the Mariachi Dinner under the stars to daily group fitness classes, beach volleyball tournaments, and dance parties hosted by local artists, you’ll be entertained from the moment you pass through the gates!

Andrew and I find that food at most All-Inclusive resorts can often be hit-or-miss, but Secrets Bahia Mita offers by far the best selection of diverse and delicious dining options we’ve ever seen for no added cost! Since there are no misses, I’m going to guide you through each of the six restaurants on the property:
First, the Market Café is a vibrant buffet-style restaurant offering an extensive selection of international dishes. From fresh fruits and pastries to made-to-order omelets and local favorites, this spot ensures a delightful breakfast experience in a spacious, welcoming environment. This spot elevates the classic “resort buffet” by providing a high-quality selection of dishes, perfect for breakfast or a quick lunch before a day spent lounging.
Bordeaux offers an elegant dining experience for a taste of fine French cuisine on the coast of Mexico. This upscale restaurant specializes in expertly crafted French dishes paired with an impressive wine selection. Bordeaux combines sophistication and flavor in every bite, perfect for a romantic evening or special celebration. Andrew and I agree that Bordeaux is our favorite restaurant on the property. Having visited France several times, I can still safely say that this restaurant offers some of the most excellent French cuisine I’ve ever had! We specifically love their escargot appetizer and perfectly prepared duck a l'orange.
You can Indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine at El Patio, where bold flavors meet traditional recipes. With a warm, rustic atmosphere beside the salty Pacific and an extensive menu featuring tacos, enchiladas, and regional specialties, this restaurant brings the heart of Mexico to the table. El Patio specifically offers an impressive selection of “street tacos” that are to die for and a caveche that, I know from experience, will make you come back multiple times during your stay!
Staying on the theme of fresh seafood, Oceana is a must-visit. Located by the ocean, it offers stunning views and an elegant menu filled with expertly prepared fish, shrimp, and other ocean delights. Whether you're looking for a light lunch or a refined dinner, Oceana’s fresh offerings will impress. Even if you're not a seafood lover, you must try their mussels! This dish transformed Andrew from someone who avoided seafood into an adventurous seafood experimenter.
Casual yet flavorful, the Seaside Grill is the perfect spot for a laid-back meal with a view. This outdoor restaurant serves various grilled specialties, from tender steaks to fresh seafood, all while you enjoy the cool ocean breeze. It’s the ideal place for a relaxed lunch or dinner by the beach. This restaurant offers the best cuts of meat on the property and prepares them perfectly! As a former bartender, I firmly believe they have the best cocktail bar at the resort!
During your stay, you can satisfy your craving for Asian flavors at Himitsu, where you’ll enjoy a unique blend of Japanese and Chinese dishes. With sushi rolls, hibachi grills, and delicious wok-fried creations, this restaurant brings a taste of Asia to your tropical escape. The vibrant atmosphere and culinary skills make for an unforgettable dining experience. The hibachi chefs are not only skilled at the grill; they are wonderful entertainers as well who will have you laughing through your entire meal!
