Nafplio, a short drive away from Athens, Greece.

Athens: Tò kleinòn ásty "The glorious city"

Athens, Greece, is a vibrant blend of ancient history and modern flair, making it the perfect starting destination for every kind of traveler. Steeped in rich culture and mythology, you can step back in time with a visit to the awe-inspiring Acropolis, where the Parthenon stands proudly over the city under the wise eye of the goddess Athena who the city is named for, or explore the ancient Agora, once the heart of Athenian life and now the epicenter of local commerce. But Athens isn't just about the past—it's a dynamic, cosmopolitan city alive with art, music, and food.

We recommend our travelers stay at the Niche Hotel, a stunning boutique hotel at the heart of the city. The Niche has a rooftop bar where an included and impressive Mediterranean breakfast is served each morning. This rooftop has one of the best views of the Acropolis which you can enjoy each morning and night!

Wander through charming neighborhoods like Plaka, where ancient marble streets come alive with colorful boutiques, cafes, and local tavernas serving mouthwatering Greek specialties. Savor a fresh moussaka, feast on souvlaki, or indulge in decadent baklava as you soak up the Mediterranean air.

Athens is a city where old-world charm and contemporary calm coexist in perfect harmony. Whether exploring ancient ruins, enjoying cutting-edge art galleries, or simply relaxing with a glass of ouzo by the Aegean sea, your visit to Athens will be an unforgettable journey at the heart of Greece.

Cape Sounion: Temple of Poseidon

A short bus ride away from Athens on a cliff that hangs like a pendulum over the Aegean sea, Cape Sounion provides visitors a fascinating view of the Mediterranean.

The Temple of Poseidon is a glorious site that all visitors to Athens need to visit. We partner with a tour company that provides an archeologist to guide you through its construction and myths that have cemented this mystic and awe-inspiring place in history since 2168 years after the disestablishment of Classical Greek civilization. You can also choose to hike the cliff side down to the beach for a dip in the crystal clear waters that, according to myth, have been blessed by Poseidon, the god of the seas.

Pro Tip: Plan your visit to the temple around sunset so you can watch as the golden sun melts into the most amazing sunset of violet, rose, and tangerine that drips and pools across the surface of the Mediterranean sea. You can sit and have a coffee or cocktail while watching a sight that has inspired artists, writers, and philosophers for literally thousands of years!

Delphi: Gnôthi Seautón “Know Thyself”

North of Athens, the city of Delphi provides travelers a gorgeous view of Greece’s mountainous landscapes olive trees. The Sea of Olives covers the mountains of Delphi, bathing them in a fluffy green “sea” of this fragrant Greek fruit tree.

Historically, Delphi was home to the Oracle of Delphi, a priestess who claimed to have the power of foresight and fortune telling. At one time, Delphi was one of the the richest cities in the world, with travelers coming from as far as China and Egypt to gain the Oracle’s insight. They brought with them riches to acquire her favor in the form of exquisite sculptures, spices, and precious minerals such as gold, jade, rare marble, and gemstones of all kinds.

In modern times, Delphi and Arachova are a prime skiing location in Greece thanks to their high elevation and are known for attracting wealthy Hellenes and travelers alike. You can browse the most pristine local shops offering fine leather goods, handmade olive oil, and incomparable Greek wine all while soaking in the views of the mountains. With cocktail bars that hang 2000 feet over the Mediterranean, restaurants that offer the best Greek food in the country, and nightlife that rivals Ski Chalets in Switzerland, Delphi is a can’t-miss destination for anyone traveling to Greece.

Set Sail to Poros, Aegina, & Hydra

One of the highlights of our first vacation to Greece was an afternoon cruise to visit three Greek islands. You get to relax with a cocktail and unlimited Greek delicacies while your ship ferries you between each destination!

The main port of Athens is Piraeus, which is Greece's largest port and one of Europe's busiest, with around 20 million passengers passing through annually. From here we embarked on a cruise to Aegina, an island known for pistachios, the Temple of Apollo, and its laid back island lifestyle.

According to myths, the island took its name from a nymph - daughter of the river God Asopos - whom Zeus fell in love with and took with him to the island. Even though the island is small, it boasts a great number of sights and natural beauties. The island’s highlight is the famous Aphea Temple, which forms an equilateral triangle with the Parthenon and the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, the so-called “holy triangle” of the antiquity. Here you can indulge in local shopping and take some local pistachios to gift to friends and family back home!

Next we headed to Poros, known as the greenest island in the Argosaronic Gulf. Its beauty has been praised by popular poets and prose writers, such as Georgios Seferis, Ioulia Dragoumi, and the American writer Henry Miller. Pinewoods cover the island’s hills, and go all the way to the sandy beaches. Poros is the ideal destination for water sports and activities such as swimming; visit the beaches at Mikro Neorio and Megalo Neorio, as well as the one at Limanaki tis Agapis (meaning ‘The Cove of Love’). Go diving in the crystal clear waters and sail through the nearby islands and off the coast of the Peloponnese. You can also explore the inland; go biking and hiking through Poros’ pinewoods.

Lastly, we headed to Hydra, an island known for its lack of vehicles and unreal vistas. A rich naval tradition and a cosmopolitan island ambience are the key defining characteristics of Hydra. Sailing into port will make you feel like you’re in Mama Mia or any other idealistic Mediterranean movie. This port is full of adorable shops, local charm, and of course, donkeys. The only way to travel up to the islands point is by donkey from the lush harbor of the island, which excites tourists and locals alike.

This breathtaking journey can be accomplished over six wonderful hours, so it is absolutely a can’t-miss experience for any travelers to Greece!
